Alexander Bacon Coxe was born in December 1872 and died in February 1965 at the age of ninety-three. He was born at Fort Seldon, New Mexico, and claimed to be the first white child born in that state. His parents were Lt. Robert E. Coxe (U.S. Army) and Helen Bacon Coxe. Coxe was a member of the Minnesota National Guard, which was mobilized during the Spanish-American War. Alexander Bacon Coxe, Jr., was a captain in the United States Navy. Born in Arizona in 1910, he represents the third generation of military officers in his family. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Coxe served aboard battleships, minecraft, and destroyers, in a variety of capacities. During World War II he commanded minelayers and destroyers. In 1958 he commanded Destroyer Squadron 8 out of Newport, R.I. He was at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Bay of Pigs invasion....
